Greenhays Popsong Steals The Show

Homebred Greenhays Popsong stole the show at Keysoe BE90 starting out with a fantastic dressage of 25.5 and following it up with a great jumping performance inside the time to take the win! He also won his previous outing a week before in two competitive British Dressage Elementary Classes with 70% scores. I was very pleased that his great performance was recognised by a well earnt H&H write up! It has been such an honour to breed, back and produce such a talented and kind pony. I will be very sad to see him go off to his new home tomorrow, but I am pleased that he has found someone aiming to utilise his potential.

Ogue Caviar has put in two brilliant runs at Novice placing 3rd (Mount Ballan) and 4th (Keysoe) with Sub 30 dressage tests and double clear on his last outing. He next heads to Pontispool BE Novice, before concentrating on getting some scores on the doors BD aiming for Home International selection!

4 year old Greenhays Midnight Magic (homebred) has started her ridden career as she means to go on. After just 10 weeks under saddle she went to her first show this week and came 2nd in the Cricklands Showjumping! She has already proven her bold and carefull approach to jumping, and has been very straight forward to back. She is now for sale, and looking for a jockey with ambitions of making a British Team!

3 year old homebred Greenhays Rufus has made a serious impression on us after his short time in being backed. Another easy going, classy young horse with paces and athleticism to die for! He has now gone back out to enjoy some luscious grass with his mates Greenhays Eclipse (yearling) and Jonagored (3 year old) my new purchase!

Although Kitty is in the middle of her GCSE exams at the moment, she took some time out to jump her pony Jk in the main ring at Devon County. I was really impressed with the improvement in her riding and she deserved the beautiful clear round she produced for the Dorset Academy Team who together finished a 2nd.

I hope you are all enjoying your horses and glorious summer weather as much as I am at the moment!

Best wishes, Alexa

Consecutive wins BE

I am very happy with how Ogue Caviar has matured this year. Jumping straight in with a settled performance at Moreton for 10th place but then excelling at Tweseldown and Aldon International taking the win at both! Firstly with a 23.5 Dressage double clear and then with an 18.8 double clear, beating the likes of Olympic event riders Kitty King, Mary King and William Fox-Pitt. Improving by 5 marks on the flat each week with lots more to give. This horse proves that hard work and patience pays off with exeptionally talented horses that are slow to mature.
Dialetto has also had a great start to the season. At Moreton he did a 33 Dressage double clear but added lots of time just schooling him round as we didn’t know how he’d cope with the mud, needless to say he loved it! So at Tweseldown I stepped up the goals and he responded by doing a stylish double clear inside the time finishing joint 4th but dropping to 5th on optimum time as he cruised round being the bold horse he is.

These horses will aim to step up to Novice at their next runs but first Team Palmer have 3 at the British Riding Club National Championship and Caviar at the British Dressage Netional Petplan Finals.

A solid start to the season for Kitty at Aldon International last weekend, finishing with a double clear in the BE100u18 with her pony Jk. Time faults pushed her just out of the placings. Not a bad result considering that she is not doing as much riding as she would like to at the moment due to her focus on GCSEs. Kitty looks forward to building on this performance next time out as Jk is feeling better than ever!

Counting down, Exiting News & Championships!

Happy New Year to you all!

We are now in full flow here, gearing up for the eventing season after a wonderful Christmas here at home with my family in Dorset. Emily 26 and Rosalie 22 have now flown the the nest and live in London, Emily for the past 6 years and Rosalie left just after Christmas to start an interior design course part time while working on pub interiors in Henley. I am thoroughly enjoying doing the horses full time for my gap year, thanks to the support I receive from Mum (Lucille) and Dad (John) and I  recently received the news that my top choice Exeter University have accepted me to start studying Business Economics in September of this year.

Another piece of exciting news!! I have been given a lovely 3 year old filly bred for national hunt, by St des Saints a French Stallion who goes back to Cadoudal. A fantastic blank canvas that I look forward to producing alongside our own homebred 3 year old gelding. I cannot thank Shirley Bailey enough for this fantastic opportunity.

Ogue Caviar & Dialetto have got 2017 off to a brilliant start.

At the end of 2016 Dialetto finished the year with a clean BS record and Tickets to the Senior Discovery Second Round & 1.05m National Amateur Second Round, with one more double clear to go until he qualifies for the Newcomers 2nd round. Next time out he will be stepping up to 1.20m I am very pleased with how far he has come, a complete transformation! A trip to the fantastic Arena Cross Country facilities at Pontispool really proved this horses worth, he has such a bold attitude to everything earning praise from International Event Rider & trainer Nick Gauntlett. An outing to Tall Trees Arena for British Dressage resulted in 2 lovely tests despite the 1 hour delay to do our test we finished 2nd.

Ogue Caviar has been doing the same as Dialetto also getting good results BD, BS, XC schooling & enjoying a few clinics with the likes of Eric Smiley, Nick Gauntlett and Jo Rimmer.

Although It has been hectic one cannot forget the superstar ponies! Just before Christmas Greenhays Popsong qualified for the Dengie Debut & Dengie 2nd rounds, Kitty & JK also put their speedy boots on qualifying too. Meanwhile Euro Timex has been enjoying hunting and jumping huge hedges! As well as sprouting wings as usual here at home, he is a seriously special pony! Jk Kitty’s pony has been at Alexa boot camp as she knuckles down in her GCSE year at school, another incredible pony who is still flying 1.15m tracks & schooling at 2* level flat work. Sadly him & Popsong (Sonny) will have to leave us this year. Even though the daylight hours are getting longer fitting 6 in to ride as well as handling our youngsters is still a challenge!

To give those of you who are not horsey an idea of hours – on Tuesday we arrived back from XC schooling at 5pm with 2 horses, I then plaited the horses with Kelly who helps us (thank goodness!) cleaned tack, loaded the car and schooled a horse in the dark with fog so thick I could barely see 2m ahead of me, I got into the house after 7.30pm cleaned my boots & was gone again by 7.30am the next morning for a 2 hour journey to BD in Cornwall. Yes I have a faithful, probably mad mother!

After a year of putting solid foundations in these horses education who needed the time to develop we look forward to cracking on this year.

My aims:

  • After scoring 94% in the B Squad test at the BYRDS (British Young Riders Dressage) Inter-County, I would like to earn a place on the A Squad.
  • BYRDS Home International
  • Ogue Caviar & Euro Timex will aim for the Gatehouse 1* league.
  • Dialetto will work towards the OIu21 classes, BSJA 2nd rounds and stepping up to 1.30m BS.

So far I will be at the following Championships in 2017:

  • British Dressage Petplan Area Festival National Championship with Ogue Caviar
  • British Riding Club National Dressage Championship with Caviar (team), Greenhays Popsong (individual) and Kitty with Jamiraqui (team)
  • BD Winter Regionals with Caviar

If if you feel as though you could support me with horse power or sponsorship I would love it if you could get in touch so we could discuss what I could offer you.

To keep up to date with the horses and I please take a look at my pages and give us a follow!

BYRDS Squading & ONu18 assesment camp

GH Popsong  performed outstandingly  at the BYRDS  Sqaud day. A lovely test resulted in us earning our BYRDS B Squad for another year. It was very rewarding to have produced GH Popsong from unbroken to this level, and receive such high marks in every section.

Dialetto wowed the judges on his first outing of the year to take the win in his first ever BD Novice test. He repeated this performance more recently at Bicton Arena winning for a second time with another 71%+. This weekend we attended the ONu18 South West regional camp. Dino really impressed us all with his potential. Helen Griffiths got rather excited and nearly stole him by the end of the session! And although green, he showed his scope and bold but careful attitude in the jumping.

I was really pleased with how JK and I performed for the BYRDS Squad day, we gained our BYRDS C Sqaud. I look forward to the Inter-County in May.

I am looking forward to my first Event of the season at Portman BE. Jk has been going very well, coming 2nd in the riding club eventer challenge (XC and SJ) in the 100 for the South West dressage Group, and coming 3rd in the arena XC at bovington and coming 1st and 3rd in prelim tests at Kingssedgemoore doing british dressage (doing a personal best for 70+%). Recently we completed in our first two BD novice test with a very good score of 68.12%. I really enjoyed taking photos at ONu18 camp.

Dressage Success

Hello everyone!!

I appologise for the lack of updates, I have been incredibly busy juggling riding the horses and school work. As you may know I am riding and producing the horses entirely myself, whilst trying to achieve at least 3 A’s in my final year at school.

Greenhays Popsong our gorgeous homebred has been gaining a fan club fast! He won his first ever dressage competition at Millfield and has qualified for the NSEA Championships. He also enjoyed Xc schooling at Pontispool, flying everything. Yesterday I took him to a riding club clinic at Kingson Mauward where he ran through his first BD Novice (a championship) test scoring 68% judged by a listed judge. I am very proud be competing a pony we have bred, broken and produced, one to watch in the future.

Last summer I had to make the very difficult decision to sell my very talented Junior horse Espionage. Our greatest achievement was 6th at Weston Park OIu21 Junior trial. She has gone to a wonderful home in Holland, where I’m sure she will continue to fulfill her potential. It was a year earlier than I had planned as I still have this year in Juniors. Nevertheless it has helped me focuses on producing 3 very exciting young horses. All of which have had a clean run of wins at British Dressage despite one never having stepped foot anywhere near a dressage arena!

We also sold our 7 year old homebred GH Future Role to a lovely pony club home and Kativa Shadow to a talented pony rider.

Kitty and Jk have built up a really good partnership particularly over the last couple of months. Below are some photos of them looking great. For more photos have a look at Kitty’s Instagram

I am currently looking for rides; eventing, dressage or showjumping. Ideally horses with previous experience ready to move on up, but also young horses or help with schooling. If you would like to see your horse doing well and support an ambitious, dedicated young rider please check out the home page/rider page for more details and get in touch.

*NEWS REVEALED* The Event season has officially started!

A very exciting arrival to Greenhays Sports Horses! In early February my mother and I purchased a very exciting rising six year old – OUGE Caviar. Yes he has the name, the looks, the ability and the attitude… we are totally in love! It is very exciting to be able to invest in him myself as I really enjoy producing horses. The big goal with him will be SENIOR TEAMS. I think he is a horse to look out for and I aim to campaign him up through Junior and Young riders. (Pictures below)

The past couple of weeks have been very stressful to say the least! As the preparation for the event season reached a new level and AS mocks at the same time, as expected the latter was more or less thrown out the window! Hence results ranged from an A in Economics to a U in one of the Biology papers! (I think a bit more attention to school work is required…)

Nevertheless Espionage and I had a great time at our first Junior training, where she really stepped up her work and impressed. Being based in Dorset it was a four hour journey but well worth it training with Caroline Moore the official Junior team coach. The Hope family were wonderful hosts and kindly let us stay at their amazing facilities, it was lovely to meet so many more friendly people!

We also made the most of the arena cross country at Pontispool equestrian center, due to the lack of grass facilities open due to the weather. This included a clinic with Tim Cheffings, Nick Gauntlet and and arena Xc competition. All very successful with myself and the horses earning plenty of compliments…. including Nick Gauntlet (Top 4* competitor/producer) stating that OUGE Caviar my new 6 year old is definitely 4* material! This is very confidence boosting as I found him myself and aim to produce him to this level. Espionage WON the arena XC and Caviar was double clear.

Video of recent training and Arena XC:

The time has finally come to blow away the remaining winter cobwebs, and have that burst of adrenaline we’ve all been waiting for! TEAM PALMER had a great start this weekend at Moreton BE considering the situation…. I had been very ill all week only managing to ride in short stints and had lost 5kg. However being my suborn self i would not let anyone stop me from going! So suffering from a severe head and stomach ache on  Saturday we made our way to Moreton. Alba posted a nice test to be right up there after dressage on 32, unfortunately we had 2 poles down due to a bout of severe migraine but pulled it together for an epic XC run. Earning some pretty nice comments from the fence judges along the way! OUGE Caviar was on Sunday and did a solid double clear in the BE100 after a nice test, with plenty of people gaping over his presence, scope, paces and general attitude to life. Kitty my younger sister who I train myself did a stunning double clear in her first BE100 to top the weekend off, with a pony we have been working hard on retraining since last year.

Massive thank you as always to all the BE Volunteers and everyone involved as this time of year requires even more input due to the weather/ground conditions. It was great to have a change in the course, and thank you to the Russel family for making the running of Moreton Possible.

A x

Exciting New Member of Team Greenhays

Over the moon to announce that I have finally found a lovely young horse. OUGE Caviar a 16.2h 6 year old has settled in really well so far – home for a week. He has an outstanding temperament to work with, taking everything in his stride. He still hasn’t quite grown into himself so needs time to develop. However his enormous talent on the flat and jumping is already evident. I have a really good feeling about his future and cant stop beaming every time I sit on him! Click here for video of his first dressage lesson.

Besides this the other horses have all been going well. Espionage has started her fast work (Galloping) and I have been focusing on honing our flatwork. And all of the horses have been doing some grid work to work on their athleticism.

The weather is not certainly putting its elements on, yesterday I rode the horses in rain, sleet and snow, oh and gale force winds too! At the weekend we decided to stay to local unaff where Alba and Zep did Double clears all round. This morning there is snow on the ground and it is frozen so we cannot get out arena Xc. Fated it seems!

New Years Resolution!

I apologise to those of you who read my blog I have become so busy juggling the horses with school my blogs get so long I feel I can no longer post them! So from now on I will be aiming to update this site with weekly news, with it getting no longer than a fortnight!

All the horses are back up and running nowimage and going brilliantly. Espionage particularly enjoyed her first gallop, and I’m pleased to say with my winter fitness routine I was feeling very well too! Her flatwork is also coming on leaps and bounds.

Meanwhile the ponies (Timex & Zep) are still with me. Both of them just don’t stop getting better and I wish I had another year in ponies…. At the end of 2014 we went to West Wilts where Zep jumped double clear in the 1m and 1m10. Euro Timex claimed second in the 1.10m and won the JA/JC qualifier getting us another H&H article (pictured below)

GH Rufus is shooting up and look very impressive. GH Pop Song is now becoming increasingly established in his jumping and is showing a bold but careful approach to life.

In my next blog I will be announcing some very exciting news, so don’t miss out!

Successful End to the Season

September – Bricky BE is our closest event, xc course designer and event owner Micheal Mundon always designs a challenging course which is also a fair and rewarding.

Timex was once again on fine form! Dressage was a bit tense as he hasn’t been on grass for a while but nonetheless he scored a competitive 32. He then followed it up with ANOTHER double clear! Time was tight and the ground was on the firm side so we picked up 4.8 time. Finishing 2nd in the ONu18!

Kativa Shadow did a nice test but harshly marked for 36.5 he then got rather excited over the small jumps (BE100) for a slightly careless two poles. I then ran him very slowly XC but clear.

Now for the EMBARRASSING part Greenhays Future Role was a bit tense in the dressage but expected due to a lack of outings. He then decided he prefers jumping bigger spooky courses, so had 2 poles but i have not been riding him at all due to time. He then did a beautiful, confident clear xc over a descent track. However I missed the very discreet hedge beside the gap, happily galloping straight past!

Larkhill (October) with just Timex was my last event of the season. I can now proudly say we have not had a SJ fault all season over some very tough tracks with limited clears! A great end to the season as he followed up with a clear XC. A very disappointing mark in the dressage of 32.5 as we thought it would be mid 20s nevertheless another good one for the section. I didn`t run him fast again so 9 time put us into 5th. Very emotional as it is very likely to be my last event on him, he will be sold or possibly go to my younger sister.

Kitty my younger sister got incredibly excited when we allowed her to take Timex out SJ, having ridden him twice before. Making the most of it she piloted a very excited and fully fit FEI pony to a quick double clear in the last class of the day the 3″3 taking the win and qualifying for the Dengie Regionals.

Other news:

  • Timex qualified for the Regional Novice and Elementary BD.
  • GH Pop Song has been jumped under saddle for the first time and I think he has the makings of a great 148 his attitude to work is unbelievable!
  • Espionage is fully fit and running after her puncture wound and will compete at some unaffiliated dressage before going affiliated. She will start jumping in December.
  • I had a great time doing 5 days work experience with Niki Ryan who has some lovely horses for sale (Videos on my YouTube channel)
